Robbie Glass
DJ - Christchurch
real name: Robbie
With 7 years experience behind the decks, 3 years experience promoting his own dance brand and regular sets up and down the country, all while working towards a law degree Robbie Glass is a very busy 21 year old.
At the tender age of 13 Robbie purchased his first pair of turntables and shortly afterwards landed his first sets on local dance music radio station Pulzar Fm. Then in 2000 at just age 16 Robbie was noticed by several local hardcore promoters and played his first major gig at the legendary Ministry complex playing in the main room supporting NZ rave icon OB1.
From here he picked up his first residency at Da Box playing trance and hard house monthly on a saturday as well as several fill in spots for various residents . He held this residency for over a year, meanwhile refining his skills at a number of local all age dance parties held at the notorious Underground where his hard nrg and hardcore sets gained him massive respect among the locals (even though he was 10 years younger than them!!) He then, while still working at Da Box, landed another residency at The Church which he held for 6 months .
Then in 2002 Robbie having left school a year early to begin his law degree and pursue his love of dance music managed to convince the owner of Christchurch's longest running and most respected dance club Base to let him run an event (he was not aware of Robbie's age!) The night was a huge success and has since been running regularly for the past 3 years with both national and international acts and tours regualrly throughout the southisland
In that time Robbie's reputation has grown and in 2003 he was voted by Biggie.co.nz (NZ's leading dance music web site) 2nd best DJ in christchurch over all genres and best hard dance DJ in Christchurch. He now plays every weekend at Base as well as regular guest sets at other major events around Christchurch like Lagered, Hed Kandi, Frantic, Slinky and Unity to name a few
He has supported almost every major international DJ in the hard dance scene including Phil Reynolds, Tara Reynolds, James Lawson, Ed real, Tom Harding, Uberdruck, Paul Maddox, Steve Hill, Donna Burt, Daniel Ro, Ilogik, Dave Lea, Guyver, Matt Clarke, K90, DJ Scot Project, Amber Savage, Archie and Bexta just to name a few.
In 2003 Robbie's skills in promotion and his rapidly growing following were picked up by Seb Darush and utilised to help further develop the Decadance brand for 3 years. During this time his reputation grew further and he started to pick up sets all over the north island playing at some of Aucklands premiere venues such as the St James, Staircase and the massive outdoor event 'Resolutions' in the coromandel.
Robbie is popular not only in the club scene but has been a highlight of some of New Zealands most well known Dance Parties. Highlights include Destination 2003, Alpine Unity 2002/03, Alpine Unity 2003/04 where he was given the honour of playing the midnight set to a packed Hard dance tent, the Hard Dance tent at Resolutions 05 in the coromandel and more recently he headlined Wellingtons only major new years event DESTInations with Phil Reynolds and High Dosage.
Robbie was also interviewed in NZ's most prominent dance magazine Infusion, and is now regularly refered to as one of NZ's best hard dance DJ's on websites and magzines.
In March 2005 Robbie began a new promotion, "Foundation" co-promoted with TinTin and The Captain focussing on the new electro tech sound. The first event being held at Winnie Bagoes with Angela Fisken and Funknslocuts the second at Base with Greg Churchill and OB1, both being sell out events these parties grabbed a tired dance scene by the scruff of the neck and making it pay attention to this exciting new sound.
All this at just 21 gives you a taster of where this DJ is going.
